Fort Hays State University’s offense exploded for four goals in the shutout conference victory over Northwest Missouri State on Sunday.

The Tigers (6-7-3, 2-4-3 MIAA) fired 16 shots in the contest, putting half of them on goal to overpower the Bearcat (4-8-2, 2-5-1 MIAA) defense and clinch their second conference win of the season.

Hannah Smith got things going early in the contest, as Amanda Talbott took a corner kick and crossed the ball into the box for Smith, whose header at 1:43 was her first goal of the season.

Just after halftime (50:31), Hannay Jurgens would get on the board for the Tigers.  Jurgens took a pass from Hailey Davey into a one-on-one situation, where she put it past goalie Kelsey Adams for the Tigers’ second goal of the day.

Soon after, in the 54th minute, Kylee Loneker scored her first of two goals on the day.  Smith’s pass to Loneker put her in the Tigers’ second one-on-one situation of the day, and Loneker executed perfectly.  Smith pushed her point total to three for the day with the assist, her first of the season.

Nearing the end of regulation, at 81:48, Loneker’s second goal of the day gave a potent offense attack another reason to smile, scoring off of Cenadya Guzman’s first assist of the year.

Goalie Kelsey Grey, starting her second consecutive game, posted a shutout with seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

Fort Hays State closes out the home portion of its 2013 schedule on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., in a conference matchup against first-place Lindenwood.
