Tuesday evening, the House voted (402-0) and passed HR. 3205, the Promoting Adoption and Legal Guardianship for Children in Foster Care Act. It reauthorizes the Adoption Incentives Grant Program and the Family Connection Grant Program through FY 2016. These programs provide tax and other financial incentives to encourage adoption through the foster care system.
Representative Tim Huelskamp (KS-1) stands in support of this legislation which hits close to home for him. As a father of four adopted children, he can directly speak to the value of finding a forever family for every child. He commends parents that seek to make a difference in a child’s life:
“Being an adoptive dad myself, I believe that this speaks to the best that government can do for the American people. Removing the obstacles to adoption and foster care are critically important for our children and for our communities as well. By placing kids in loving homes, we help them find the forever family ever child needs and deserves.”
Rep. Huelskamp has taken an active role in congress on adoption, by participating in The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), which orchestrates the Angels in Adoption™ program. Through which, he is able to honor those Kansans that have demonstrated outstanding advocacy on adoption and foster care issues. He’s also an active member of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption—a caucus in the House of Representatives and together with his wife has been promoting adoption for years.
