A fall harvest accident on Wednesday night south of Ness City could have been a tragedy.
Ness County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Bailey told Hays Post an older harvest truck’s brakes failed and the truck hit a combine about 7 p.m.
“The truck was driving behind the combine and was not able to stop. The brakes just quit working. The driver tried to go around the combine but hit it,” Bailey said.
The accident occurred in the middle of a bridge at approximately 100 Road on highway 283 forcing traffic to one lane for almost 2 hours.
The accident knocked the headers off the combine.
A winch truck from Ness City removed the truck and headers. Nobody was injured.
