Big changes are ahead for the Ellis County Relay for Life. Starting in 2014 the event will be held on the parking lot at the Mall in Hays, not the Hays Middle School track.
Lonny Claycamp, one of the walk organizers told Hays Post “At the mall we can set up our own track, if the weather is bad we can go inside and we can dim the parking lot lights for the luminaries.”
The event, which has always been on a Friday night in June, will now be held on a Saturday night in October. They have October 18 on the calendar for next year’s walk. The event will still be held from 6 p.m. to midnight.
“Having the event right on Vine Street will give it more exposure,” said Claycamp. People can drive by and see all the festivities going on and we may see a lot of new faces next year.
