New School Zone

Hays School ZonesAt Thursday evening’s City Commission Meeting, approval was given to establish a new school zone in town.  Interim Superintendent Dean Katt spoke Thursday evening about the proposed area, which is a one-block stretch of road heading north and east from the intersection of Walnut and 12th St.

“We do have kids that are dropped off and picked up on 12th Street in front of the school which is Westside, and we also have the alternative school that has kids in and out basically all day, there’s not a set schedule for those.   There needs to be a school zone.”

Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the school zone.  The approval gives city staff the ability to put up signage designating the area as a 20 MPH school zone.  It will only affect traffic through the area.  The change will not have an impact on available parking.
