No. 18 Fort Hays State University fell, 2-1, to West Texas A&M on Tuesday afternoon in Hays, Kan.
The Tigers drop to 10-3-2 on the year while the Buffs improve to 11-3-1.
FHSU managed just six shots in the game, four of which came in the first half, including Ricardo Yeverino’s 10th goal of the season. Yeverino had three of the Tigers’ shots, while David Lucio, Diego Cabral and Perry Dicker accounted for the other half.
Fort Hays State took a 1-0 lead just 10:01 into the contest when Daniel Peralta fired a pass from midfield that found Yeverino, who gathered himself on the left half of the box after deking a defender and drilled a shot into the right side of the net.
At half, Fort Hays State led, 1-0.
In the 63rd minute, Eric Gonzalez of West Texas A&M tied the match when his shot from the upper left corner of the box went over goalie Kent Freund’s outstretched hands. Freund managed to get a fingertip on it, but the ball was already too deep in the net for a save.
