Lady Tigers Roll in Home Opener

The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers outscored Oklahoma-Panhandle State by 44 in the second half and cruised to a 109-45 win Saturday evening at Gross Coliseum in Hays.

After a slow start the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the early going, on a three-pointed from Taylor Chandler. The teams traded baskets for much of the first eight minutes before the Aggies closed the gap to two, at 17-15 with 11:38 to go in the first. Then Chandler hit her second three pointer of the half sparking a 19-3 run putting the Tigers up 36-18. Fort Hays continued to build on their lead and led by as much as 22 in the first half and led 46-26 at halftime.

The Tigers opened the second half on a 24-2 run and never looked back on their way to a 109-45 win. The 109 points was first time the Tigers scored over 100 points since November of 2011 when they scored 101 against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The Tigers had four players in double figures led by Kate Edwards with a game-high 23 points and she also pulled down 12 rebounds. Freshman Jill Faxon came off the bench to score 21 points. Kate Lehman chipped in nine points to go along with a game-high 15 rebounds and nine blocks. Chelsea Manson had 11 and Tera Ingalsbe was the other Tiger to reach double-digits, with 15 points in 16 minutes.

The Tigers improve to 2-0 with the win and they return to action next Tuesday night, 19th to play host to Bethel College.
