The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department and the US Postal Inspectors Service are investigating several incidents of people going through mailboxes in Ellis County over the weekend. The Sheriff’s Department received seven reports of mail that was stolen from mailboxes Saturday morning. Ellis County Sheriff Ed Harbin said that there were some checks among the stolen items.
Three of the reports were in the Northern part of the county;
1900 block of Emmeram Road
Toulon and Emmeram Road
1700 block of Hopewell Road
Three more reports came from Southern Ellis County;
1200 block of Grants Villa Road
1400 block of Grants Ville Road
600 block of 300th Avenue
Sheriff Harbin said that during this time of year mail can be a target, “It is Christmas season, Christmas gifts are sent in the mail at times. Sometimes it’s cash, sometimes it’s checks. There’s also personal information that they can gather from stealing somebody’s mail.”
Harbin also reminded everyone to be on the lookout for anyone that they don’t recognize and to report suspicious behavior.
