(AP) — Kansas State is headed back to the desert, this time to face Michigan in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
The Wildcats (7-5) lost to Oregon 35-17 in last year’s Fiesta Bowl, but earned a return trip to Arizona after finishing strong this season.
Kansas State lost four of its first six games, including to FCS school North Dakota State at home, before reeling off four straight wins. The Wildcats finished with a flourish, rolling over rival Kansas 31-10 in their regular-season finale on Saturday.
Michigan (7-5) opened the season 5-0 before fading down the stretch. The Wolverines lost four of their final five games, though came within a failed 2-point conversion of knocking off then-No. 2 Ohio State on Nov. 30 in their final game.
Icy conditions are blamed for a Sunday rollover accident on I-70
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol sixty-five year old Elizabeth Pierce of Abilene was driving a 1999 Ford F 150 westbound on I-70 four miles east of Salina when she lost control on the ice. The truck entered the median, rolled once and came to rest on its wheels in the eastbound lanes of I-70. Pierce was transported to Salina Regional Medical Center. She was wearing a seat belt.

(AP) — The Kansas City scored early and often Sunday, breaking a three-game losing streak with a 45-10 embarrassment of the Washington Redskins.
The Chiefs improved to 10-3 by dominating an opponent that offered little resistance. They scored on their first four possessions, sacked Robert Griffin III five times and Kirk Cousins once, and returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns.
The score was 17-0 after the first quarter and 38-10 at halftime. Quintin Demps immediately answered the lone Redskins touchdown with a 95-yard kickoff return, part of a stunning tally of 321 return yards by Kansas City in the first half alone.
The Redskins fell to 3-10, increasing speculation that coach Mike Shanahan will be gone at the end of the season.
(AP) — After a New York commuter train derailment killed four people, two federal lawmakers want trains to be outfitted with cameras pointed at engineers and at the tracks.
Sens. Charles Schumer of New York and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut held a news conference Sunday at Grand Central Terminal, one week after the derailment in the Bronx. The Democratic lawmakers are urging the Federal Railroad Administration to implement the cameras.
The National Transportation Safety Board has suggested it.
The railroad administration hasn’t immediately responded to messages seeking comment on the idea. There’s also no immediate comment from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. It runs Metro-North, the railroad involved in the crash.
A lawyer and union leader for the derailed train’s engineer have said he briefly nodded or experienced a daze at the controls.
(AP) — A fresh round of snow and drizzle has slickened roads across parts of Kansas and Missouri.
The wintry precipitation began falling Saturday and continued into Sunday.
The hardest-hit part of Kansas was the north-central section of the state, where 6-inch accumulations were recorded. Two inches fell in the northwest and 2 to 4 inches in the state’s far northeast section. Light snow and freezing drizzle were reported in south-central, southeast and central Kansas.
One inch fell at Kansas City International Airport and 3 to 4 inches in the northwest part of Missouri. North-central and northeast Missouri had received about half an inch by around noon.
There was just a light dusting in parts of southern Missouri already digging out from 6 to 12 inches of snow.

(AP) — A Wichita falconer has been reunited with his golden eagle.
Nate Mathews has been using birds of prey to hunt for the past decade. He took on the challenge of training a golden eagle named Isaiah in 2011.
But a few days before the first hunt, the bird escaped. About 18 months later, Mathews heard of a golden eagle that had been trying to kill chickens and was beaten when it was trapped inside an Arizona coop. The captured bird was Isaiah.
For much of this spring and summer, Mathews worked with Isaiah. Recently, Mathews made the two-hour drive to west of Lyons to test whether Isaiah would return or set off for parts unknown. Success. Isaiah returned to his handler every time.
(AP) — The area surrounding a central Topeka home in which three people were found shot to death has seen four other homicides in a little over six years.
Some residents say the Central Park neighborhood is a good one that has improved in recent years.
Topeka police still have not publicly listed any suspects in what they’ve described as the first quadruple homicide in the city’s history. One female victim was found at a Topeka restaurant about a half-mile from her home, where the bodies of two men and a woman were found.
The same home was the site of a teenage boy’s shooting in September 2007. Also, shooting deaths occurred within several blocks in October 2009, August 2011 and June of this year.
