Charges filed against former Trego Co BOE President

Criminal charges have been filed in Trego County District Court against John Reeder.  Reeder, who resigned as USD 208 Board of Education President Friday, was arrested at his Wakeeney home Thursday evening.  In a press release from USD 208 Superintendent Dr. George Griffith, it is made clear that Reeder’s resignation is not admission of guilt.

“Mr. Reeder wanted the board and members of the community to know that he was not admitting any guilt,” the statement says. “His concern was that the charges against him might distract the board of education from its business which is doing what is in the best interest of the children they serve”

According to court documents, Reeder is charged with the following:

  • Possession of Marijuana with a prior conviction, a level 5 drug felony
    • On or about October 16 was found to be in possession of marijuana after being previously convicted for possession
  • Criminal use of weapons, a class b nonperson select misdemeanor
    • On or about October 16 was found to be in possession of a firearm when “addicted to and an unlawful user of a controlled substance”
  • Distribution of marijuana within 1,000 of school property, a level 3 drug felony
    • In or about July – October, distributed amount that was less than 25 grams of marijuana within 1,000 feet of school property
  • Distribution of marijuana within 1,000 of school property, a level 2 drug felony
    • In or about late September or early October, distributed amount that was at least 25 grams but less than 450 grams of marijuana within 1,000 feet of school property

The arrest warrant, which was dated December 30th, 2013, was signed by Kimberly B. King, Special Assistant Attorney General out of Independence, KS.

Reeder is scheduled to appear in Trego County District Court Tuesday, January 7 at 1:00 pm.
