At Thursday evening’s meeting of the Hays City Commission, commissioners voted to extend a lease with North Central Kansas Technical College.
The existing five-year contract between NCK Tech and the city for the former Army Reserve building at 101 Main was set to expire in May. The action extends the lease another two years.
NCK Tech President Eric Burks said he is satisfied with the agreement.
Commissioners pointed out communication between the college and the city has improved greatly. Burks stressed the college is happy to do electrical, heating and air and carpentry projects for the city as students and staff are available.
With the current lease agreement, NCK Tech uses the facility for free, but it is responsible for maintenance, they must hire five full-time employees and they have to construct projects for the city every other year.
