At approximately 6:45 p.m. Saturday, a man and his daughter were robbed at knifepoint of their Nissan pickup at a gas station near the interstate, according to a press release from the Hays Police Department. The owner of the truck suffered a cut on his hand.

The suspect was identified as William A. Tyler, 39, California.
Tyler fled the area in the stolen truck, police said, where it was spotted north of Hays by an HPD officer. Tyler reportedly attempted to elude police and lost control of the pickup at Toulon and Interstate 70, where he fled on foot.
Tyler was arrested after fighting officers, the report said, noting one HPD officer was injured. Tyler and the officer were transported to Hays Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The suspect was transported to the Ellis County jail, arrested on multiple felony charges. The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the apprehension.
