Fighting for the “working class” and “Christian values” is what an Abilene man promises as he announces his candidacy for the First District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. David Joyce told Hays Post he is tired of feeling the working class do not have a voice in Washington, and is mounting a challenge against Republican incumbent Tim Huelskamp.

Joyce, a 52-year-old truck driver, said he has been a Republican all his life, but is running as an independent.

Joyce said he has more than the 5,000 required petition signatures to run in November’s race, but his goal is to obtain signatures from 70 percent of the district’s registered voters.
