Holy Family Elementary School has been chosen as the top Pint-Size Hero school in Kansas for 2013.
The American Red Cross’ Pint-Size Hero program encourages elementary students to get involved with helping save lives. Designed for students who are too young to donate blood, the program teaches students about the importance of blood donation and the beginning steps of organizing a blood drive. Through the program, elementary students invite eligible blood donors to give a “pint” of blood at their school-sponsored blood drive.
At Holy Family’s first Pint-Size Hero blood drive in 2013, the Red Cross collected 20 pints of blood. The next Holy Family Elementary blood drive is Jan. 22, and the Red Cross hopes to collect 22 pints of blood.
The blood donation event will be from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the school.
