At Thursday’s Hays City Commission work session, commissioners will hear a staff recommendation to increase the admission price at Hays Aquatic Park and Wilson Pool by $1 for those 18 and older.
Current fees at $3 for HAP and $2 for Wilson. If implemented, it would be the first increase in admission fees since 2008, according to the work session memo.
Poor weather in 2013 helped drive attendance numbers at HAP to its lowest level ever, and Wilson also had one of its worst years. The operating loss on the facilities, split equally by the city and Hays Recreation Commission, is just less than $41,000.
The $1 increase would generate between $7,500 and $8,500 in additional revenue during the course of a normal year, city staff said.
