The Hay City Commission raised some of the fees at the Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course during its meeting Thursday night.
Upon a recommendation from the Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course Advisory Board, the commission unanimously created a flat $15 tournament green fee, up from the previous fees that varied from $2.50 to $8.33 depending on the number of holes and the day(s) of the tournament.
“The challenge that the golf course faces is that tournaments actually take away revenue from members and others that want to use the course,” Commissioner Henry Schwaller said. “It’s in our best interest to recoup as much as we can, as well as limit the number of tournaments.”
The commission also added a junior greens fee of $10 for non-members younger than 17. This fee brings the price down for junior players who used to have to pay the same greens fee as adults, which ranges from $14-$22 depending on the time and the day of the week.
“A lot of the time is what we see is that fathers like to take their sons out to play golf,” said Jeff Boyle, Hays parks director. “This’ll provide that opportunity to make it more affordable for that younger child to go.”
The fee adjustments will begin on March 1.
