ELLIS — The state fire marshal’s office is investigating what Ellis Police Chief Taft Yates describes as a “probable arson fire” at 11:17 p.m. Saturday night.

According to Yates, the house is in the alley behind 606 Washington and has been long abandoned. It was unoccupied and no utilities were connected.

The Ellis city volunteer fire department responded.  The structure was completely destroyed, and there were no injuries.

“We do have leads we’re actively following up,” Yates said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Ellis Police Department at (785) 726.4141. Anonymous tips also can be left on the EPD website.
