For the third straight year Hays High’s Preston Weigel is a state champion.

Weigel entered the 5A state tournament at Hartman Area with a perfect 36-0 record and cruised to a 40-0 record at a state championship at 195 pounds.

The Hays High senior won his first two matches by tech-falls in the first period. In the championship semi-finals Weigel also won by tech-fall but this time it was 20 seconds into the second period. He then wrapped up the tournament with a 16-1 first period tech-fall win over Austin McBee of Blue Valley SW.

Also at the 2014 state tournament Ethan Deterding finished 4th at 182 pounds. Vincent Scott also placed 4th at 285 for the Indians.
