Big first half run carries FHSU women to MIAA tourney quarterfinals

The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers went on a 27-3 first half run after falling behind by five and beat Nebraska-Kearney 88-68 Monday night at Gross Coliseum. With the victory, the Lady Tigers advance to the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals where they will play Missouri Southern in the 2:15pm game Thursday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

Fort Hays State improves to 20-7, giving them three straight 20-win seasons for the first time in program history.

The Lady Tigers raced out to an early 6-0 lead but the Lopers answered with a 13-2 run to go up five. The Lady Tigers scored the next 15, holding UNK to one field goal over the next 10 minutes in building a 19 point lead and were up 21 at the half.

Nebraska-Kearney scored the first six points in the second half and got as close as 14 but the Lady Tigers answer with a 15-6 run and led by as many as 26 in the second half.

Chelsea Mason led four Lady Tigers in double-figures with 18 points. Beth Bohuslavsky added 14, Kate Lehman 12 and Kate Edwards 11. Lehman also grabbed 11 rebounds for her eighth straight double-double.
