Representatives from Sternberg Museum of Natural History proposed a partnership with the school District at last night’s USD 489 school board meeting.
Museum director Reese Barrick said the museum can provide the interactive and performance based science activities now required by the state, called “Next Generation Science Standards.”
Barrick said the museum already provides many programs which fit within the science standards. He noted the Dr. Howard Reynolds Nature Trials provide ‘field science” experience and the museum’s “Discovery Room” and “Fossil Room” provide many interactive activities
Barrick said museum staff would also work with the district to tailor programs specifically for the teacher’s needs from kindergarten through high school:

Barrick said the museum will offer the district discounted prices on classroom tours and programs.
Superintendent Dean Katt said district staff will meet with museum staff next week to discuss details about the partnership.
