Two people are in custody after an incident that led to a standoff Monday morning in Hays.
According to a news release issued Monday evening by the Hays Police Department, officers responded to the 2100 block of Lincoln Draw this morning, following up on an investigation of a reported carjacking in Wichita.

Officers were able to recover the stolen vehicle and arrested Crystal R. McKinney, 31, Wichita, on allegations of felony obstruction, obstruction and driving while revoked.
A perimeter was set up and officers attempted unsuccessfully to call 32-year-old Michael E. Novak, Wichita, from a residence on Lincoln. Novak reportedly was wanted in connection with the carjacking and a $100,000 bond felony arrest warrant out of Sedgwick County.
The HPD’s Special Situation Response Team was called to the scene to assist with the barricaded subject. At 9:37 a.m., the SSRT made entry into the house and found Novak hiding in an upstairs bedroom. Novak was arrested for the felony warrant, and felony obstruction.
Both McKinney and Novak are being held in the Ellis County jail.
The HPD offered its appreciation for the cooperation and support of area residents during the prolonged event. The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office assisted with this incident.
