Kansas man injured in Saturday car-train collision

Railroad Crossing 001HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — The Reno County Sheriff’s office says a 77-year-old man was injured when the car he was in was hit by a train.

The sheriff’s department says the accident occurred Saturday morning when the SUV drove in front of the Union Pacific train that was traveling about 55 mph. The train hit the car’s driver side rear, causing it to spin off of the tracks. The driver was taken to a Hutchinson hospital with moderate injuries.

The sheriff’s department says the train crew wasn’t injured.
