The Hays USD 489 Board of Education will meet for a work session at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Rockwell Administration Center, with the resignation of a former board president on the agenda.
Darren Schumacher, who has served on the board since July 2007, offered his resignation after a local business closure forced his relocation from Hays.
Schumacher, the former general manager of Carlos O’Kelly’s, has yet to reveal where he will be moving, but offered his resignation later to USD 489 faculty and staff last week.
The board of education will discuss a resolution to accept Schumacher’s resignation and authorize the appointment of a replacement after publication of the vacancy.
The board also will discuss budget issues, with Superintendent Dean Katt and business manager Tracy Kaiser offering an update on a budget that remains more than $1 million in the red.
The board will discuss fees for all-day kindergarten, fees for busing students within the 2.5-mile radius, an increase of the local-option budget to 31 percent, and cost-of-living weighting.
Other agenda items for discussion include an update of the E-rate wireless infrastructure project at Washington Elementary School, a review of the district’s recently implemented SMART goals and the appointment of a new member to the district’s technology committee.
