Decatur County in western Kansas has been called one of the least healthy counties in the state, according to annual rankings from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Ellis County was ranked as the 12th healthiest in the state for health outcomes and fifth healthiest in the category of health factors, which includes behavior, clinical care, and socioeconomic and physical factors.
Overall, Ellis County ranked 12th. Osborne County in northwest Kansas was judged the sixth healthiest county in the state.
Decatur County, by comparison was ranked 64th in terms of health factors and 94th in terms of outcome, which takes into account how long people live and how healthy they feel. Of the counties ranked, Decatur County ranked 94th overall.
Johnson County was atop the rankings, while several other northwest Kansas counties were near the bottom of the list including, Logan, Norton, Thomas and Russell counties. All of those counties ranked 73th or worse.
