Partial list of ‘Big Event’ volunteer efforts is available

FHSU University Relations

The Student Government Association at Fort Hays State University has planned its Big Event — a “thank you” to the community that supports the university — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 3. This is the fourth annual Big Event at FHSU.

More than 300 FHSU students participated in community service activities at last year’s event. The projects ranged from yard cleanup for the elderly to reading to elementary school classes.

Some projects for this year include a downtown cleanup, volunteering at the High Plains Humane Society and yard work for the Hays Area Children’s Center.

Attached is a running list of events associated with this year’s Big Event.

• Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home, 204 West Seventh, yard cleanup
• Good Samaritan Center, 2700 Canal, play trivia games
• Hays Area Children’s Center, 94 Lewis Drive, prepare for event
• Hays Community Assistance Center, 208 East 12th, scrape paint
• First Methodist Church, 305 West Seventh, clean lawn
• FHSU campus/Big Creek, 3 to 5 p.m., clean trash

The itinerary is subject to changes as more projects continue to be added. Projects also will include efforts at Sternberg Museum of Natural History, downtown and various sidewalk cleanups.
