RUSSELL — Russell County voters cast their ballots today as local elections were held across Kansas.

The half-cent countywide sales tax has been renewed again for another five years by an overwhelming 75 percent of the voters: Yes-737; No-252.

According to Russell County Economic Development and Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Janae Talbott, each incorporated city in Russell County receives a portion of the half-cent sales tax, which can be utilized for local economic development and capital improvements.

Luray residents agreed to implement a 1-cent citywide sales tax beginning Jan. 1, 2015. It will be used to finance general operations and public infrastructure projects in Luray.  The sales tax will remain in place until repealed.

Results for contested city council races follow.
