Law enforcement is investigating a stabbing that sent one man to Hays Medical Center early Sunday morning.

According to Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler, dispatch began to receive multiple reports of a male “yelling and pounding on doors” on the 1300 block of Washington early Sunday morning.

When officers arrived at the scene shortly after 1 a.m., they found a “white male laying down on the grass who had been stabbed” on his left side.

Scheibler said the man was transported to Hays Medical Center. At this point, authorities are investigating the incident and no arrests have been made.

Kathy Dreher, the victim’s mother, told Hays Post on Monday afternoon that her son, Kyle, had suffered a collapsed lung, broken ribs and a significant laceration.

“We were able to determined all parties knew each other, and were quickly able to determine no one else was in danger, which was our main concern,” Scheibler said. “We did serve a search warrant to gather potential evidence and to document the scene.”

Scheibler said alcohol appeared to be be a factor in the disturbance, and the case has been turned over to the Ellis County Attorney’s office.
