Programs will offer advice to teens ready to strike out on their own

Soroptimist International of Hays and Hays Public Library are sponsoring four informational programs, designed to help high school students and young people prepare for living “on their own.”

Sessions begin this week and will be held 5 to 6 p.m. in the Trish Davies Room at the library.

Sessions include:

Thursday, April 3
Housing: Down payments, rental agreements, safety issues, energy saving tips, etc. Presenters will be Tami Norris, Advanced Real Estate, and Brian Dreiling, Midwest Energy.

Thursday, April 10
Cooking: Shopping and cooking on a limited budget. Presenter will be Linda Beech, Kansas State Research and Extension.

Thursday, April 24
Working: Job search basics, value of a good employee, applications, what to wear, goals, etc. Presenter will be Jennifer Young, KansasWorks.

Thursday, May 1
Relating: Relationships with peers, co-workers, etc. Presenter will be Jill Blurton, retired health and wellness teacher.

At each session, teens can register for a $50 drawing, to be held at the last session. They do not need to be present to win. Refreshments also will be provided.
