LA CROSSE — An early morning fire Saturday caused extensive smoke damage at La Crosse High School.
According to Rush County Sheriff Ward Corsair, the fire was reported at 4:09 a.m. Saturday and started in the gymnasium, where preparations for Saturday’s prom had been underway.
Corsair said the gymnasium sustained some fire damage, while the rest of the school suffered smoke damage.
At this time, Corsair said, nothing suspicious has been discovered in relation to the fire. The fire marshal was on the scene shortly after the call went out, and authorities are continuing to investigate the fire.
Saturday’s high school prom activities have been moved to St. Michael’s Parish Center.
