Full Circle Aging Expo scheduled for April 25

Being realistic about your health at any age is the focus of the 2014 Full Circle on Aging, scheduled for April 25 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Hays. The event, sponsored by K-State Research and Extension, Fort Hays State University and the Northwest Area Agency on Aging, brings together aging experts to help caregivers and individuals alike. With both a public track and a professional track for those involved in the health care industry, Full Circle offers a unique learning opportunity.

K-State Research and Extension

Dr. Jeff Burnett of Fort Hays State University is the event’s keynote speaker. He will help participants sort through all the hype and advertising about health. Burnett is a faculty member in the Health and Human Performance Department at FHSU and knows the importance of living life healthfully.

Another exciting feature of this year’s Full Circle conference is Angel Shaver, WaKeeney native and 2013 Miss Wheelchair Kansas. Angel’s presentation is titled, “Maintaining an Attitude of Gratitude,” which focuses on how thankfulness can change our attitude and outlook on life.

Breakout sessions will focus on the following topics: “It’s OK to Tell Your Doctor No,” “Crimes and Punishment: Protecting the Elderly,” “Making the Most of Your Medicare Part D Supplement,” “Using Technology Information and Resources To Care at a Distance,” “Avoiding Estate Planning Mistakes,” “Technology: Bridging the Gap Between Generations.”

Cost to attend the public conference is $25 per person or $40 per couple and includes the full day agenda and lunch. Registration is due by Thursday. Walk-in registration fee at the door will be $35 with no guarantee of lunch.

Professionals have a different agenda and different pricing, with up to six continuing education credits available. The cost for the professional track is $85 and is due by Thursday as well.

For more information or to register, contact Linda Beech at the Ellis County Extension Office, (785) 628-9430, or visit www.ellis.ksu.edu to see the registration brochure for both the public and professional track.  To register online and pay with a credit card, go to www.northwest.ksu.edu and click on Full Circle under Events.
