The Hays City Commission will consider finalizing a partnership between the city and Kansas Department of Transportation that would expand the city’s on-street bicycle lanes and create a trail system along the Big Creek levee.

The item is up for discussion at the commission’s work session, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

The state’s share of the project cost is estimated at $590,000, while the city would spend just more than $393,000 on its share. Those funds would be taken from the city’s stormwater and special parks funds.

Bidding for the project is scheduled to be this summer, and city staff will recommend commissioners approve the commitment at its next regular meeting.
