Hays city commissioners will hear a proposal from staff at Thursday’s work session that would continue to clean city sewer lines.
According to a memo from commissioners from Bernie Kitten, director of utilities, Meyer Specialty Service cleaned 19 miles of sewer lines in 2013. The lines also were videoed to detect flaws including cracks, holes and tree root clogs.
“Staff was very pleased with the work,” Kitten said. “They completed the work in a timely manner. They placed door hangers on all affected customers. They handled customer problems professionally and promptly with follow up.”
Meyer, based in Goddard, has proposed continuing the contract with the city at a 1.5 percent cost increase — from $1.19 per foot to $1.21 per foot. The cost of the work in 2014 is not the exceed $120,000, the amount budgeted for the work this year.
Staff is recommending the contract be approved at an upcoming regular meeting.
The work session is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall. A complete agenda can be seen HERE.
