The Hays High softball team split their doubleheader at Salina South Thursday. Despite both teams getting 10 hits, the Indians drop the opener 9-4 but come back to win the second game 13-4.
Hays had an early 2-0 lead in the first contest but the Cougars score three in the second , two in the third and fourth then add two more in the sixth. Hanna Hearld allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits over four innings and takes the loss. Haley Wells and Tessa Stickel both had three hits.
The Indians explode for six runs in the second inning of game two. They put the contest away with two in the sixth and four in the seventh. Hanna Hearld allowed all four runs on eight hits in the complete game victory, striking out 11 and walking three. Tessa Stickel went 4-for-5 and Madison Prough doubled and tripled and drove in four.
The Indians are now 5-1. They host Colby on Tuesday at 4pm at the Bickel-Schmidt Sports Complex.
