Mixed messages on potential Sebelius Senate run

Will Kathleen Sebelius run for Pat Robert’s Senate seat? The idea was floated in a recent New York Times story, which cited an anonymous source saying she is considering a run.

That statement was countered by another unnamed source today saying she was not considering a run. The Kansas Democratic Party has, so far, not responded to questions on whether they have been in touch with the former Kansas governor, who resigned her post as Health and Human Services Secretary last Friday.

A survey conducted last year by Public Policy Polling asked 1,229 registered Kansas voters, including 760 Republican primary voters:

If the candidates for Senate were Republican Pat Roberts and Democrat Kathleen Sebelius, who would you vote for?
• Pat Roberts: 51%
• Kathleen Sebelius: 40%
• Not sure: 9%

Since then, Topeka Democrat Chad Taylor and Leawood Republican Milton Wolf have entered the race as candidates for the Senate primary.

The deadline to file for a Senate run in Kansas is June 2. Kansas hasn’t sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.
