Roberts, Powers re-elected to top student government spots at FHSU

Chris Roberts, a junior at Fort Hays State University, picked up the presidency for the second straight year in the annual Student Government Association election. Joining the incumbent as vice president will be junior Arin Powers. Both will hold office for their senior year.

Before coming to FHSU, Roberts, a justice studies major, graduated from Salina Central High School. He has been a member of the SGA since his freshman year. In his first two years at the university, he served as a senator from the College of Arts and Sciences. He has also been a member of the allocations, appropriations, presidential search and senate affairs committees. Roberts held the executive role of legislative affairs director last year before being elected to the presidency. He also serves as the chairman of the Students’ Advisory Committee, a board made up of all of the student body presidents from the public institutions in the state. In that role, Roberts has testified before various state legislative committees.

Powers came to FHSU from Mooreland, Okla., where she graduated from high school in 2011. Powers was elected to the SGA in 2012 as a senator for the College of Business and Leadership and has served as a senator for the past two years. She is pursuing a degree in business management with a concentration in business law and a minor in leadership studies. In her role as senator, she has served on the service learning, allocations, student steering and the FHSU presidential search committees. She also served as a chairwoman for the Student Affairs committee.
