‘Wichita’ movie and director to be in Russell May 1

RUSSELL–Independent film maker Nick Barton, Wichita, will be in Russell Thursday, May 1, to talk about his new movie “Wichita” followed by a showing of the movie at the Dream Theater.

Barton is the film’s writer and director.

Filmed in and around Wichita in 2013, Wichita is an independent full-length feature western set in 1882. An  on-the-run fugitive tracks his assailants into the quiet cow town of Wichita.  While there, a drifter befriends a few families along the outskirts of the city and uncovers a dark truth about the town and its inhabitants. The film is intended for mature audiences.

All but two of the lead characters were cast locally.

Barton will be at the Deines Cultural Center from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to discuss his movie and and his goals for the future of film making in Kansas.  The event then moves to the Dream Theater where Wichita will be shown at 7 p.m..

Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

wichita posterThe world premiere of Wichita was held April 4 in Wichita at the Orpheum Theatre.  The screening kicked off a 30-city, six-state tour.  Barton hopes for a film festival run and eventual release on DVD and On-demand.
