GARFIELD —  8:30 p.m. UPDATE  A  Barton County man died in a Tuesday afternoon plane crash in Pawnee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported the Fixed-Wing, Single-Engine Airplane flown by  Donald E. Cates, 67, Claflin, was Northwest of Garfield flying Southeast when it hit a power line on the North side of G Road. The plane continued past a row of trees and nose-dived into a ditch, striking a row of hay bales and came to rest in the middle of 210th Road.

Cates was transported to Beckwith Funeral Home in Larned.

 

GARFIELD–The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a Tuesday afternoon crop duster plane crash.

The pilot, identified as Barton County Commissioner Don Cates was killed.
Authorities say the crash took place near Garfield. There were no other injuries.
