Hays High baseball sweeps Pratt

The Hays High baseball team hit three home runs which propelled them to a 7-1 win over Pratt in game one of their makeup doubleheader Thursday at the Hays High field. The Indians win the second game 8-3 to run their winning streak to four. The games were originally scheduled for April 3rd but had to be moved due to weather.

Layne Downing hit a solo homer in the second to give the Indians an early 1-0 lead. Marcus Altman’s two-run shot an inning later put them up 3-0. Jarett’s Pfannenstiel’s two-run shot in the sixth highlighted a three-run inning for the final margin.

Connor Rule’s two-run first inning double gave the Indians the early lead in game two as they score seven of their eight runs in the first three innings. Rule and Cole Schumacher both had two of the Indians eight hits.

Schumacher picked up the complete game victory in the opener, striking out eight and walking just one and allowing one unearned run. Marcus Altman gets the win in the second game, going six innings in game two, striking out eight and walking four while allowed three runs on two hits.

The Indians are now 7-5 and return to Western Athletic Conference play at home Tuesday against Great Bend.
