11:45 a.m. UPDATE COLLYER, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Highway patrol says a passenger bus collided with a pickup truck in western Kansas, killing one person in the pickup and injuring several other people on the bus.
The patrol says the accident happened early Wednesday as the Greyhound bus and pickup truck were headed east on Interstate 70 in Trego County.
Patrol spokesman Tod Hileman says investigators are working to determine what caused the accident. He says the victim was in the pickup, which was also hauling a trailer. The victim’s identity hasn’t been released.
Hileman says eight people from the bus, including the driver, were taken to a nearby hospital. The patrol didn’t have their conditions.
Greyhound didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
COLLYER — A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 70 in Trego County overnight. The accident near the Collyer exit was reported just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Trooper D Technical Trooper Tod Hileman, Hays, said KHP investigators were still on the scene at about 9 a.m.
“They’ve told me the accident was probably not related to the weather,” Hileman said. “At this point, we know that a Greyhound bus and pickup pulling a trailer were both eastbound. The pickup driver was killed and a passenger was seriously injured.”
