Hays High boys track and field wins Salina South Regional; girls fourth

The Hays High boys had five first place individual finishes and won two relays to capture the Salina South 5A Regional track and field championship Friday. The Indians scored 123.7 points easily outdistancing second place Maize South who scored 77.

The Hays High girls had one individual champion and finished fourth with 78 points, six behind third place Great Bend.

Alex Delton led the way for the Indian boys with four first-place finishes. Delton won both the 100 (10.93) and 200 meters (22.45) and was a part of the winning 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.

Clayton Riedel and Shawn Herrman were also on both winning relays. Riedel also finished second in the 400 (50.47). Landon Munsch was on the 4×400 and won the 800 meters (2:00.41).

Jordan Windholz won the triple jumo (43-07.75), finished second in the long jump (20-6.50) and was also on the winning 4×100 relay.

Aaron Voss won the high jump (6-02) and finished fourth in the triple jumo (41-05). Hayden Kreutzer came in second in the pole vault (11-6) while Brandon Hardwich was third in the shot put (49-5).

Wendy Zimmerman had the lone first-place finish for the Hays High girls, winning the high jump (4-10). She was also a part of the 4×800 relay that finished third and the 4×400 that  finished fourth to qualify.

Matti Schlaefli qualified on four events, finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.35) and the javelin (114-01), third in the 300 hurdles (48.94) and was also a part of the 4×400 relay.

Lexi Summers finished second in the triple jump (33-02). Kali Pitcock was third in the 100 hurdled (16.59) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.47). Ashlyn Parrish finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.03).

Summer Smith qualified on both relay teams as did Marie Reveles. Annie Gonzales is on the 4×800 relay.
