Chiefs sign first-round pick Dee Ford

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs signed first-round pick Dee Ford on Saturday, putting the final player from this year’s draft class under contract as the team began a three-day rookie minicamp.

Ford played defensive end at Auburn but the Chiefs view him as a pass-rushing outside linebacker, one who can complement Pro Bowl selections Tamba Hali and Justin Houston this season and potentially replace one of them next season.

He was the No. 23 overall pick in this year’s draft.

The office announced in a statement Friday that the session planned next week by former agent John Guandolo had become too controversial.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations on Wednesday asked the sheriff’s department to cancel the two-day session. The group said Guandolo is biased against Islam and his training programs persuade law enforcement members to be suspicious of all Muslims.

The sheriff’s office initially rejected the request but said Friday that the controversy had overshadowed the reason for the training.

The sheriff said another instructor would provide the training in the future. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has offered to present anti-terrorism training for the county.
