The exterior of the former Walmart has begun to take on the look of a Hobby Lobby — and now the company is prepping to fill its aisles with workers.

Hobby Lobby, which is scheduled to open in mid-July, is accepting applications 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday this week at Holiday Inn Express, according to Vincent Parker of Hobby Lobby Stores Inc.

The store is expected to employ between 30 and 50 workers, ranging from cashiers and stockers to custom picture framers and floral designers. Pay for full-time employees is expected to start at $14 hourly, with part-time employees beginning at $9.50 per hour.

The store will breathe new life into the former Walmart at 3300 Vine, a 52,420-square-foot facility. It will be the 13th Hobby Lobby in Kansas and among the nearly 600 nationwide.
