Sunday evening’s storm front brought with it gusting winds — and took down several power poles.
Mike Morley of Midwest Energy said Monday morning that winds brought down 14 power poles throughout Ellis and Barton counties, causing outages that left approximately 2,400 customers without power.
The largest outage — which affected approximately 2,200 customers for two hours — included southern Hays and stretched into Rush County, according to Midwest’s online outage viewer.
The remainder of the outages were scattered between Ellis, Victoria and near Gorham.
Three poles near the Munjor substation were toppled, as well as two in Hays, one in Yocemento.
“All four Hays crews were out til around 5 this morning getting power back on,” Morley told Hays Post Monday morning. “Three crews are now on rest; one is still out doing cleanup work and resetting a couple meter poles.”
Outages can be tracked using Midwest’s online outage viewer.
There also was reported damage at the Ellis County Fairgrounds, where a power pole was toppled by wind and damaged bleachers.
