Humane Society of the High Plains
The Humane Society of the High Plains is gearing up for its biennial Garage Sale and Cookie Extravaganza to be held in the former Fashion Bug store in The Mall from 8 a.m. to noon June 21.
Garage sale items that didn’t survive spring cleaning and need to be discarded may be brought to the Virginia Miller Animal Shelter, 2050 E. Old U.S. 40, through June 18. Hours are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays and from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on weekends. All items must be in good repair, clean and work. Clothing, purses, shoes, tires, mattresses, as well as children’s mechanical toys, cribs, strollers, baby buggies and other children’s furniture are not accepted. The shelter staff and board don’t want to risk having children’s items for sale that have been recalled.
June 19 and 20, items may be brought to the former Fashion Bug store in The Mall. Call the shelter at (785) 625-5252 for times.
A large variety of homemade cookies, baked by shelter staff and Humane Society board, will also be for sale, including chocolate chip and brownies, as well as Snickerdoodles, Greek butter cookies, lemon sugar, orange chewy, frosted walnut, Nutella banana and peanut butter.
Proceeds of the sale will be used to spay and neuter homeless animals, so they will be more apt to be adopted into forever homes.
