The Hays Eagles Senior American Legion score seven runs over the final four innings including two in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn’t enough as their comeback falls short against the Manhattan 17ers 10-9 Friday night as they settle for a split on the first day of their tournament at Tointon Stadium in Manhattan. The Eagles won their opener 9-0 against Great Bend and are now 3-1 on the season.
Manhattan scored four in the fourth and two in the fifth to grab a 10-2 lead before the Eagles started their comeback. Hays answered with two in the fourth on a Layne Downing home run and Dalton Stout double. They score three in the fifth then take advantage of two Manhattan errors to score two in the seventh and had the tying run at second with one out but two strikeouts ended the threat.
Kade Parker allowed only four hits in a complete game shutout against Great Bend in the opener. Parker struck out five and walked none in his first win of the season. Layne Downing hit a RBI triple to key a five-run second inning. Trenton Henningsen added a two-run single. Dalton Stout added an RBI double and Kaden Rohr had a sac fly.
