LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A veteran northeast Kansas administrator has been appointed manager of the Douglas County city of Eudora.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports the appointment of Gary Ortiz was taking effect Monday.

Ortiz has been serving as assistant county administrator for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. He previously was the city manager of Leavenworth from 1998 to 2007.

Ortiz said in a statement that recent development of a transportation center near Gardner and Edgerton will help economic growth along the Kansas 10 corridor connecting Johnson and Douglas counties.
