It’s been a good month for the parched region — and there could be more precipitation on the way.

Already in June, Hays has received 6.39 inches of rain, as measured at the Kansas State Ag Research Center.

While Friday is expected to be cool, clear and windy, another slight chance of thunderstorms returns late tonight and will continue through Monday.

The National Weather Service in Dodge City said there is only a slim chance for storms — 10 percent to 20 percent — beginning at approximately 11 p.m. Friday.

The mercury is expected to jump drastically this weekend. Friday’s high is projected only at 82 degrees, while forecasters are expecting a high of 95 degrees Saturday.

The NWS said there will be scattered thunderstorms Friday night, although those are expected to be focused on the west-central and southwest portion of the state. Those storms could bring small hail and wind gusts of more than 60 mph.

The storms that could arrive over the weekend, however, could bring the same wind and even larger hail, up to golf ball size.
