Two hospitalized after storm blows semi-truck off Interstate

Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 9.53.00 AMQUINTER- A semi-truck driver and passenger were injured when their truck was blown off the highway at 10:15 Saturday night in Trego County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Freightliner semi-truck driven by Kariem A. Petty, 26, Hamlet, NC., was parked on the inside shoulder of Interstate 70 fourteen miles west of WaKeeney due to Saturday night’s bad weather.

A wind gust caused the truck to overturn onto its left side.

Petty and a passenger Alfred Dyre, 24, Hamlet, NC., were transported to the Quinter Medical Center.

The KHP reported Dyre was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
