9:40 a.m. UPDATE from The Kansas Department of Transportation:  The damaged guardrail from the accident has been removed and traffic was moving head to head at a reduced rate of speed through the area.

A wrecker had arrived on the scene, and plans call for traffic to be detoured during the time needed for the wrecker to remove the semi from the area.

During that time eastbound traffic will be taken off of I-70 at the Abilene Interchange, then north on K-15 to K-18, east to US 77, and then south on US 77 to rejoin I-70. Westbound traffic will continue to travel west on the eastbound passing lane during the recovery of the semi.

Once the wrecker has removed the semi and departed the area all traffic will be restored to head to head throughout the work zone at 65 mph.

9:15 a.m. ABILENE – First responders were called to  a truck accident on eastbound Interstate 70 near mile post 280 just after 7:30 Wednesday morning.

The crash was in a construction zone near Abilene.
