Alex Bazan, age 26, of WaKeeney, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at Hays Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1988, in Garden City. He was a WaKeeney resident most of his life.
Alex loved his job as a roughneck in the oil field. He worked for Shields Oil Co. He cherished his time spent with family; especially his children. Alex always looked forward to a fishing trip with his grandpa. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church of WaKeeney. He was united in marriage to Nikki Ochoa. To this union, two children were born. They later divorced. Alex then entered a relationship with girlfriend, Sophie Olivas. They have two children together. Upon Alex’s passing, he gave the gift of sight with the donation of his corneas. He will be missed by many.
Surivors include his children, Mason, AhnaLee, Devanee, and Julissa; parents, Dina and husband Richard Mohr of WaKeeney and Ramon Bazan of Garden City; grandparents, Juan and Rosentina Mendoza of Garden City, Maria Bazan of Holcomb, and Frieda Mohr of WaKeeney; brothers, Marcus Bazan of Hays and David Mohr of Tampa, Florida; sisters Amy and husband Dewey Howard of WaKeeney and Jane and husband Grady Gaschler of Kansas City, Kansas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Alvin Mohr and Ramon Bazan, Sr.; uncles Gary Mohr and Gerald Bazan; and good friend Sean Reeder.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30, Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Christ the King Catholic Church of WaKeeney. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a parish vigil service immediately following at 7:00. All will take place at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alex Bazan Memorial Fund (for his childrens’ education) and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
